A new journey to define myself.

Time to change

I have been doing a lot of thinking. Well, things change, people change, I have changed. So I have come to a decision. I want a new blog, because this blog here just doesn't feel like "me". That means good bye to Dragonflies and Hydrangeas.

And this is a good thing. It's going to take me some time to get a new blog going, but change is good. I will announce the new blog address when the time comes. A big thanks to all the people who frequent this blog and never hesitate to give me their support. Thank you very much. And I hope I'll see you all again when I get the new blog going.

Love and Peace to all!

Princess

Today, I had another spontaneous play date with my artist self. This time we fiddled with polymer clay and made this doll.

I'm so proud of myself! High five! (I know, I'm a dork)

Proud to be a sculptor

A waving cat (after the style of Japanese money luck cat, manekineko), an owl, and a skunk, commissioned by a certain two-year-old toddler. I added the kappa (green water sprite, on far left) for she's such a good and adorable "customer". A customer like her makes me proud to be a sculptor.

Two sculptures in progress

I finally overcame the thought that I can never do anything I want with my kid around.

Last week, I decided to let my daughter participate in my art making process. To my surprise, she was totally cool with this idea. So I sat down and make my sculpture while my daughter helped herself to my clay and make a total mess. But I am quite happy with this experience. I was able to play with my clay in peace. And I finally learn to embrace the fact that the kid loves to make a mess, and she just wants to be around her mommy. And since I got to sculpt, I was so happy at the end of the day, I didn't mind cleaning the mess at all! Ha!

So last week I was able to make two sculptures on two separate occasions. First one is this "blooming head" figure.

And the second piece is this wolf sculpture. Both works were not planned, they are the results of my spontaneous play with clay. It was a lot of fun! I haven't had this much fun with sculpting in ages!

Created By Hand

I am very honored that my works are featured in today's Created By Hand blog. A big thanks to Nancy, the owner of Created By Hand and Every Photo Tells A Story, for giving me this opportunity to showcase my works.

The above picture is a close up of a ceramic sculpture that is featured in Created By Hand. It is called "Unbreakable". The sculpture may be physically broken in some places, but the figure continues to sing to the heaven. Today I feel like singing :) I hope I can keep on singing in my own voice through my works.

Thanks again, Nancy, I really appreciate this.

I made this

Upon my daughter's request, I made this the other day: a stick horse. And she actually had fun with it! Yay!

Things are going well. To my own surprise, I have been faithfully writing the artist pages and following the tasks listed in The Artist Way for four weeks now. And now I am drawing again, almost every week (doing this as my artist date). Hopefully will get back to sculpting at some point. I even started playing my harmonica again (which used to drive my sister's cats crazy back in the old days).
